Jack and Jill paid their bills and finished filing their taxes. Jack felt trapped so Jill broke the window. Jill, you know we can't afford to fix that. Jill said, sometimes your heart stops beating. you need to let the light in. Jack said, when it rains, YOU will be the one mopping. Jack, hapless thoughts will happen. hold onto that upper hand while you can. Perhaps a mishap might happen, you know, Jill, neither of us ever learned how to swim. Jill said, you may be over the hill, but I'm over the moon. Two years later, on Jack's birthday Jack and Jill were on a hill eating cake until while walking much too near to the water mill Jack fell down with a fist to his chest his heart standing much too still Later on at the funeral Jill sank to her knees like someone had shot her because she had watched Jack give up. She said, he's on the other side. Later that week, while at Jill's shrink, Jill cried. Her shrink said, it is not your fault he locked his woe into a vault and you know there is no one in the world who you owe. Jill said, I know I know even your own heart can attack you.

about

“this was her, Mick Kelly, walking in the daytime and by herself at night. in the hot sun and in the dark with all the plans and feelings. this music was her—the real plain her...this music did not take a long time or a short time. it did not have anything to do with time going by at all. she sat with her arms around her legs, biting her salty knee very hard. the whole world was this symphony, and there was not enough of her to listen... now that it was over there was only her heart beating like a rabbit and this terrible hurt.”

– the heart is a lonely hunter by Carson McCullers
